From the Back Cover

In her most affirming and life-changing book yet, Dr. Harriet Lerner teaches us how to restore love and connection with the people who matter the most. In The Dance of Connection we learn what to say (and not say) when: We need an apology, and the person who has harmed us won't apologize or be accountable. We don't know how to take a conversation to the next level when we feel desperate. We feel worn down by the other person's criticism, negativity, or irresponsible behavior. We have been rejected or cut off, and the other person won't show up for the conversation. We are struggling with staying or leaving, and we don't know our "bottom line." We are convinced that we've tried everything -- and nothing changes.Filled with compelling personal stories and case examples, Lerner outlines bold new "voice lessons" that show us how to speak with honor and personal integrity, even when the other person behaves badly. Whether we're dealing with a partner, parent, sister, or best friend, The Dance of Connection teaches us how to navigate our most important relationships with clarity, courage, and joyous conviction.

I read The Dance of Anger many years ago. When I recently decided to work on personal boundary issues I turned to this book. Following some of the principles described in the book, I'm in the process of changing a dysfunctional relationship with my mother. I have efforts that result in good outcomes and then I revert back to my old self. This book has helped me to stick with it and to stay true to myself in my effort to change the way I relate. It's working. He next book I'll read is The Dance of Intimacy. Thanks for an insightful and thoughtful book.

I have enjoyed, and learned from, reading Lerner’s “Dance of....” books for over 20 years. She always posits interesting things to think of in terms of interpersonal communication. Sometimes I feel I need to have some of her “advice” tattooed on my arms and hands 😄.I like that she uses a lot of personal anecdotes although I know some find it off putting. But I like that I can have a silent conversation “No, do I really do that?...Yes, it might work better if I....”I always feel better after reading her books and that, for me, is huge.

I cant say enough good things about this book.. if you love your spouse, but still constantly find yourself butting heads with him/her.. read this book.. i read this book after "The dance of anger". Between these and the book "Five love languages" the atmosphere of my marriage is vastly more peaceful now!

Speedy delivery, exactly what I expected. I highly recommend this author for anyone looking for help with relationships or better understanding yourself. I have read nearly all of Harriet Lerner's books. I gleaned useful knowledge from every book.

I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking a deeper connection in relationships. Lerner provides great examples of how to find your voice and express it in a way that will be heard.

I found this book really helpful with understanding relationships and communication. My husband isn't one for self help books or counseling or anything like that so I tend to read a lot of this stuff on my own. This one was definitely easy to understand and made a lot of sense. I enjoyed it!

Great insight into our lives. Harriet is a fantastic writer and writes to all regarding your family, friends, relationships, and the basis of how you were raised, and how your parents' upbringing influenced how you are today. This book is one you should read over and over again. There is too much to take in with one pass. She gets it! Everyone will take something from this book - read it again in a couple of months and I am sure you will get another little gem of (oh! That is so why I do ________ (fill in blanks)) This is a keeper, and I would recommend it as gifts for all the people you love - NOT to change them, but for a deeper understanding of who they are, who their parents, grandparents, relatives, etc. are. This is NOT really a self-help book, more of an insightful guide to human nature, with Aha! moments sprinkled in. Quick, easy read, hard to put down.

Very insightful book on connections and how to heal our past perceptions and finding courage to make the bridge.

There are multiple elements that make The Girl From Everywhere a fantastic read for a lot of people, and I certainly see why there has been so much rave by fellow bloggers and readers alike. I always love a good pirate stories and movie, plus I love traveling in real life and through fitcion to different locations and time periods. At first glance, this book has everything I want in a story, but while some elements succeeded for me, some did not.THE GREAT :- An author who writes #ownvoice stories; yes please!- A half Chinese, half Hawaiian heroine who has some spark and spunk to her, who is thoughtful, kind and on a journey of self-discovery- Temptation's crew is very diverse and I found all of the crew members (with one exception, more on that below) very endearing- Speaking of the crew, I LOVE KASH SO ÃœBER MUCH WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE ISN'T REAL *falls into a puddle of feels*- The setting; I have never traveled to Hawaii, but due to the lush and vivid setting, my urge to visit this beautiful place one day is even bigger now (though ofc a lot has changed since the time period when this book takes place and now)- The start of the book was really great: intriguing, fast-paced, filled with longing, funny remarks and even pulls at your heartstrings!- I also liked the very ending and all the possibilities where the story could go- I'm not a fan of Nix's dad, because he dismisses her so much, and it hurts even more to read it from Nix's point of view and seeing her hurt over his constant dismissal, but I did like the vulnerable moments from both of them that peeked through from time to time- I liked that this book featured bipolar disorder and it isn't stated that this book isn't specifically about bipolar disorder but just features a character who is bipolar; it shows well that even in a fantasy/sci-fi world you can very well include neurodiversity and it doesn't have to be left just for contemporary novelsTHE (MAYBE) NOT-SO-GREAT :- The plot. I was forced to put the book down because of my exams in January, but after that.. I just found it hard to pick up? I was about halfway through by then and every time afterwards when I tried to pick it up, even after my own hardcover copy arrived, it was a struggle, because nothing. was. happening. Or more like, things were happening, but it was still the same thing and next to no progress was made: the same conversations, the same plans, the same everything. Needless to say it dragged a lot in the middle and the latter half of the novel.- The love triangle elements. Honestly, I'm not opposed to love triangles anymore. Weird, right? I've grown to appreciate a good love triangle and they don't bother me that much. I also don't mind Nix wanting to experience something that is not tied to Temptation and just be an ordinary girl. I'm all here for this! (you know.. as long as my ship is endgame..) What I do mind though, is that the blurb (I think the original blurb might have been changed, because I seem to remember Kash's name being mentioned; hmmmmmm) gave no implication of a love triangle and it very much implies that Kash is the only love interest (or at least it was so at the time I requested this book for review). I'm sorry, but I can't even remember the name of this other love interest, because he's so bland and how could anyone ever compete with Kash in these books! It's an injustice in itself, to be honest. The other guy is extremely pushy and annoying; by the time he actually dared to threaten Kash so Nix would consider his plan or whatever, I was ready to sucker punch him in the face. I wish this other guy hadn't taken up so much of the book. (I guess it's pretty obvious which team I'm on.)- I did say above that I loved traveling to different places, but while the scenery, clothing and such were described well, I would have liked to have seen more of the local cuisine, customs and whatnot. I read Written in the Stars eariler this year (I will try to review it soon here, too!) and that book excelled so beautifully at introducing the local culture that, at times, TGFE just fell short for me.- The world building outside of Hawaii. For a time traveling book, there is barely any time traveling besides the first few chapters. I'm thinking there will be more in the sequel? I'd also like to know more about the Navigators' world, more of its history, the specifics of how it all works etc. There's a lot to explore there.I have seen so many people rave about this book and love it a lot, but even though I enjoyed some aspects, there were things that dragged for me and what I wanted to see more of. I haven't decided yet whether I want to pursue the sequel, though I really want to see where it goes and how Nix's story ends. Overall, this book lacked for me in many areas, but as a whole, it was still a promising debut and I can't wait to see where Heiling takes us next as we follow her in her career.Thank you to Edelweiss and Greenwillow Books for providing a review copy in exchange for an honest review. My thoughts are my own and in no way did receiving a review copy affect them.

The Girl from Everywhere is a book that needs patience to indulge in the realistic plus fairy tale worlds built by the author. It is a book that I nearly abandoned but yet captivated by the magical world and characters and kept me reading it until the end of the pages.Disclaimer: I received this copy of book from the distributor in exchange of my honest review. The WorldI'm not a big fan of time travel so I read very little books on time travel. When I think of time travel, I would think whether what the characters did at the present time will affect the future. Or perhaps the destiny is already pre-determined and there's no way we change the fate? In this book, seems like it's the later. The story started in 1774 of India, followed by present year (2016) of New York, then stayed in 1884 of Hawaii which is the main setting of the book. To me, Hawaii is a place which is full of sunshine and beaches and also warmhearted people. I'm quite surprised to see that Chinatown and Qin Dynasty is in part of the big picture of the story. In fact, the diversity of the different places and cultures was what makes me continue reading the book. The combination of factual and fictional world is also part of the reasons why this book is mesmerizing. The CharactersOur narrator is Nix Song. She is strong and smart and eager to learn new things. Her love of books is also one of the reasons why I liked her. However, she tends to show her vulnerability when she's dealing with her father. She becomes like a helpless little girl especially when her father is obsessed with getting the map of Honolulu in the year of 1868. Luckily she has Kashmir on board along with other crew members who she can talk to and laugh with.I never liked Slate (Nix's father) and I think he is selfish. His relationship with Nix is getting bad because of his obsession over the maps. His character is also a bit flat compared to Nix and Kashmir.Kashmir is a very interesting character, even sexy to me. He is originated from a mythical place called Vaadi Al-Maas, which is actually one of the settings in One Thousand and One Nights. He speaks Persian, Arabic, English and French and the description of him in the book reminds me of Disney's Aladdin but a sexier version. He is charming, attractive and smart. And most of the book quotes that I highlighted in the book are part of his speeches in the dialogues. There are a lot of things that are illegal but not wrong. And probably more that are wrong, and still legal. And this. The laws of the jungle remind me of the laws of the street. When I came abroad, I had to learn a different set of laws. Everywhere we go there is a different set of laws. Most of them unwritten. There are actually more but I'll let you discover yourself when you read the book. The PlotAs I mentioned in the beginning of this review, the story is slow-paced and a bit over-descriptive. Not that it's not good but I don't like this kind of writing. There is a little bit of romance in the book which I found unsatisfactory and I yearned to have more. Though the book is categorized as Young Adult title, I think it's more suitable to be read by adult because of the writing.
