Grew up watching/playing Aussie rules, but moved to America and started looking for anything that wasn't NFL "football". The 2014 NRL final between the Roosters and Bulldogs, with Sam Burgess playing with a busted face, sealed the deal for me and made me a committed rugby fan. So, basically, I'm a very new fan to rugby. I read this book as I was watching the second half of the ITM Cup season unfold and I was looking for more insights as to what I was seeing when I watched rugby. This is not the service this book is trying to provide. Fortunately, I am a history buff, so I went along for the ride with a good attitude. This is basically a history of rugby book, which is an outstanding concept. Rugby is a story that needs to be told. Now, if you are uninitiated or recently initiated, and NOT total Anglophile, you will get lost during major parts of this book. This book could have been MASSIVELY assisted by a few pages of maps. Richards tells a global story, a story of nations at times. Some maps would help! I would give 5 stars for this book if it had maps. Speaking to Richard's writing style, he has an avuncular, story-teller tone that he maintains throughout, quite pleasurable to read. His approach assumes you have some background in rugby, which is fine, probably most people who buy this book do. I can't imagine a rugby fan having a library without this book, but I would recommend it to a total novice. Other than no maps (which you can get around by looking places up online), I dinged this book 1 star because toward the end you get page after page of summaries of international rugby games that, I guess, were of some kind of importance.

This book gives us the history of Rugby Union, with mentions of Soccer football, Gaelic Football, U.S. Football, Rugby League and Aussie Rules when their history impacts the history of Union.We see the origin of Rugby Union and of soccer as each emerged from the myriad local rules popular in Great Britain in the Nineteenth Century. The story of the game's origin at one point in time at Rugby School, with one player given credit for the change, is debunked as being as silly as the story that a former Union general, Abner Doubleday, invented baseball out of nowhere in Cooperstown NY. Well, really it isn't _as_ silly. It turns out that the rules used at Rugby School _were_ the rules that various schools and clubs settled on when they decided that they were not going to play soccer. And the public (meaning private) schools such as Rugby School, are shown as being very influential in the spread of the game, as well as giving it such class-consciousness that one sometimes still sees in those longing for the good old says of the amateur game.Then we see the conflict that gave rise to Rugby League, a game that seems mid-way to U.S. football in some ways, although it was never played much over here. And we see the unintended consequence of the breakaway of the clubs that went to League: English Rugby Union was weakened, making it possible for Ireland, Scotland, wales and later on France and Italy to contest the Four, Five and finally Six Nations tournament that has been so instrumental in making Union popular.We see Australia, with three sets of rules, four counting soccer, weakened in comparison to New Zealand, where only League competes with Union. And we see that non-whites played Rugby in South Africa even before their liberation and the World Cup that came as if as a reward.All in all, it is a fascinating story and well-told. Just be advised that it does not include the most recent World Cup.

A very detailed history of the sport. At times I had to re-read sentences, due to Richard's writing style. I think he could have researched the US Olympic rugby teams more: it wasn't "basically a Stanford team." Santa Clara University and University of California were well represented on those two Olympic teams, as well as a Swathmore student. Other than that I thought that there could have been more written about the New Zealand tour to the British Isles in the fall/winter of 1972-73 and how they weren't as successful on that tour as they had been and have continued to be on other tours.

I am just getting into the book as I only read a bit before falling asleep. It appears enjoyable for myself andanyone interested in Rugby. But probably not for a non-fan of the game.

Excited for friend to read it as a gift. Special gift note was not included so quite disappointed since this was indeed a gift with no card or memo.

Mr. Richard knows rugby history and presents the subject in a highly readable manner for novices as well as long in tooth fans. A fascinating world wide view of the growth of rugby union.

A moving dedication begins this extensive history of rugby, but this isn't for beginners. The fine writer and sincere fan Huw Richards created this detailed book, and it's good if you're already an informed insider. The author takes the time to develop the characters and while also explaining with side segments terminologies common in the manga publishing industry (type setting, proper toning, a manga artist typical work set up).Both main leads are likeable and do have a touch of realism. Onodera is initially stuck in the past in a sense that he A) wants to prove himself as bigger than what he’s seen due to former workers at his father’s publishing company labeling as nothing more than a coat tail rider B) is still jaded by the belief that Takano treated their relationship in the past a joke which he misunderstood. Essentially he's stuck in quarter life crisis, however, even with those anchors he’s grounded when it comes to work and tenacious in that to him it’s not a matter can or can’t but just doing it. Takano from the little details unveiled from Yokozawa (and later in the manga you find out more) that he had a troubled past pre and post initial breakup with Onodora, however he is very fair and intelligent in his decision making despite lacking tact. Although not obvious initially, he’s very caring towards Onodera at work in his own way by pushing him to succeed (since that’s what Onodera strives for) even if that meant overworking him. The author does a great job fleshing and developing the characters.If you’ve seen the anime, it follows the first episode few episodes except with more dialog in some instances along with explanations about terminology which in the anime explained itself at the end of the episodes during the previews in a very fast paced dialog usually done by Onodera. If you’ve previously read the manga this release does provide a full translation of additional pages, so it’s definitely worth a second read. For those that never read or watched the series there is sex, but it’s done in a tasteful manner where it’s not thrown in out of nowhere. As always Nakamura does a great job with the art. There’s usually build prior to the act.I was very happy Sublime licensed the series and finally able to have a physical copy. If you enjoyed Junjou Romantica then you’ll enjoy Sekaiichi Hatsukoi. The manga is very character driven and focuses on developing the characters. Highly recommended.

The author of Junjou Romantica brings you yet another amazing story of love with The World's Greatest First Love. Set in the same world as Junjou you won't be disappointed. It's about meeting a first love again ten years later when both people have changed in many ways, some due to their first relationship. I won't give anything away except to say that if you love BL, sappy funny love stories then you absolutely have to read this one. I've watched the anime version of this story more times than I can count, I practically know it by heart but the manga brings you deeper into the story and shows you scenes that weren't in the show. It is 18+ for Explicit content though so be prepared for that.

Ritsu Onodera quit his job at the publishing firm run by his father after his frustration final boiled over at not ever being considered for his own merits. He ends up at Marukawa Publishing working on the shojo (comics targeted at teenage females) magazine Emerald which is run by Masumune Takano, also known as Ritsu's first love and the person that Ritsu blames for making him into a jaded adult. Their relationship was a short lived one that ended dramatically based on misunderstandings 10 years prior. The main story in this first book sets up their relationship and their new dynamic as the combination of boss-subordinate as well as love interests. The last chapter is a look back on their original relationship.What's great about this story is that you get multiple levels. There's straight-up knowledge of how manga publishing works, then there's the humorously exaggerated view of the work life of the editors, the romance between two people who hurt each other deeply in the past and are struggling to come to terms with their new dynamic, and lastly there's the comparison of the storyline itself to a stereotypical shojo romance. Sometimes the comparison is fairly obvious with comments made by the characters. Sometimes it's more discreet like with the introduction of the maidenly heartthrob panel only to be shown later in the chapter with sarcasm instead of sweet words.The book itself has a nice color plate at the front. Nakamura's artwork is a nice blend of beautiful and humorous with some incredibly detailed backgrounds especially at the publishing house. The translation of the work is well done. It keeps the usage of -san and a few other terms which preserves the feel of a Japanese publishing house without overwhelming a western reader. Some of the sounds effects took a bit of getting used to as they were shortened versions with the vowels removed. Sex scenes are present though relatively tame. Takano is also fairly forceful with may not appeal to some.

At first i feared this series was never going to be released but when it did HALLELUJAH!!!! I absolutely love this series while it can get a bit *cough cough o///o * anyway its got a great storyline to it. I especially love how the mangaka behind this series took a more realistic approach by choosing a normal everyday life scenario and demonstrated how hard life can be when trying to find a balance between your personal life and work. She also shows how difficult it is to try and deal with forbidden love between two men in three different stories with ukes Ritsu Onodera, Shota Kisa, and Chiaki Yoshino and their potential love interests Masamune Takano, Kou Yukina, and Yoshiyuki Hatori.

Fabulous series! I can't wait to read the next book! I love this author and her plot lines are wonderful! My only request would be that the publisher continue publishing her other series, Junjo Romantica! Why did they stop!?! Shungiku Nakamura is such a highly respected and known author and I hope to continue seeing this series being published along with her other works!

She started her own blog years ago and made money off it, worked at agencies big and small and thanks to her acute professional knowledge on what works and doesn't on social - landed a position as Director of Influencer Relations at Hearst Publications - where all she does all day every day, is work. with. super. influencers.So do you think she knows what she is talking about?Here's what the book would teach you- what people want to see on Instagram- what it takes to build a following on social media- the types of Influencers out there - anecdotes from influencers (normal people with strengths and weaknesses) who have built themselves from the ground up.- what an agent could do for you ( note - you dont NEED one to succeed, but a good one helps you get there faster)- what bad habits to avoid if you want to get campaigns over and overI read some of the negative reviews here and here are my thoughts:- a lot of them just don't like Brittany's message - i.e. you got to do the work.- they say it favors 'people who look a certain way'. This book is a rip off. The text is gigantic, so there are only a few sentences per page. Also, it is a feminist book. The entire book is about women in the influencer market. If you are a female, this may be an empowering book, but as a male, I find it useless. It has sections with headlines such as "women dominating the influencer market" and "my advice to young girls is to be YOU" and "Don't be that girl" and a lot more of that. Clearly geared toward women and clearly not what I was looking for. There is also a glossary with words defined such as "content". I have come to realize that this book is meant for 12 year old girls who may want to expand their instagram, and definitely not for anyone looking to be the next Tai Lopez.

There is so much insider information in this book that there is no way to know unless you work in the industry hiring influencers or are already a successful influencer yourself. This book is a great resource to understand how to take your online presence to the next level. It's easy to read and has a lot of actionable advice. There's nothing else like this out there -- glad i grabbed a copy!

As a relatively new influencer, I was looking for some more guidance and came upon Influencer. I find that the biggest challenge whenever venturing into an unfamiliar space is that you don't know what you don't know. Luckily, each chapter Brittany writes is saturated with easily digestible, helpful advice that fuels conversations you need to have with yourself as an influencer. Her voice is heard from front to back and makes it feel like she's sitting down with you and walking you through the tips you'll need. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for counsel from an industry expert on their journey to instagram fame!

Might be a decent book on the actualTopic, but I thought it would be about general influencer in one’s field of work. Instead, it was basically about getting famous via Instagram. Like those people who have grumpy cat and so on. Not remotely of interest to me. I returned the book.

Read this whole book in a day and it has a ton of great information - all the do's and don'ts, how to build your brand, and how to package it. Brittany also included examples on how to professionally answer emails, negotiate brand deals, and things brands are looking for when reading your about page. I think every aspiring influencer and current influencer can take away something from this. There's nothing else as honest and helpful as this book out there.

It's totally Instagram-centric. Lots of great examples of Instagram stars who mastered the art of building a following and keeping your "brand" alive and in front of your followers. I love the author's voice and humor. It made me want to know her! She's been in the business for a long time and knows what she's talking about.What I wished for that wasn't there was more specific information about how these "stars" actually build their Instagram presence. Maybe I'm being goofy but I wanted a little more how-to.

2 years ago when I started a beauty related Instagram account, I went to my local library to find a book that would help me in marketing myself best and to understand the influencer space. There was nothing that was available then. Fast forward to today, Ms. Hennessey’s book is exactly what I was looking for then. Speaking from a place of experience and knowledge, she gives a unique insight to an evolving space. I highly recommend picking up this book if you are a content creator and influencer that is looking for guidance in manuvering through this sphere.

This is a classic book and I've learned a lot from it. I heard about the book in an XM radio interview with Mike Adams. The core idea is that there are different optimal swings for different body types. Like Einstein's Theory of Relativity, it is one of those ideas that seems perfectly logical when you hear about it. Many may have seen this idea in Golf magazines a few years back. This book is where the idea was presented, and the book takes you though the theory and how to measure yourself to determine which body type you are, then provide lots of detail about how to implement your swing and customize it to fit some of the most common variations. I bought it used on Amazon with it being supplied by the Friends of the Phoenix Library. My copy of the book is in excellent condition and has obviously been well cared for and protected by the Phoenix Library for a few years.

The title sounds reasonable enough to seriously considering purchasing this book. Being almost 8 years old, it was well worth the price that I paid through one of the Amazon resellers. It is still timely in that no two golfers are exactly alike. You won't see Craig Stadler trying a Vijay Singh or Tiger Woods swing. The imagery of a person with particular body type trying to swing a club that doesn't fit their shape is clear - it won't work very efficiently.The latest craze, due to an influx of infomercials, is the "Plane Truth" as outlined by Mr. Hardy. This book, "The Laws of the Golf Swing", is complementary to what is described in the Hardy book, in my opinion. It does give me a sigh of relief that there is so much overlap regarding the fundamentals of the golf swing. It makes sense that given a particular body type, a swing will be more powerful and natural if the two can be matched.The first chapter has a short introduction explaining the background of 'research'. You then determine your body type based upon physical and morphological characteristics, strength and flexibility. Based upon that set, you fit into one of 3 categories: Leverage, Width, and Arc swing. Hybrid swings exists also which combine the 3 major Swing categories.A chapter is devoted to the major swing styles, independently, and how to maximize performance. The book is better organized than the "Plane Truth" since Hardy's book covers set up and various aspects in separate chapters to parallel the differences. This book, "The LAWs" has each swing in its respective chapter, which is easier to read. A chapter covering drills to reinforce the swings, as well as pitfalls.Each section is well written and illustrations are good. My main criticism is not showing the swing in the two different planes of photography (from behind and from the front, as most books now show).The analysis, drills and excellent descriptions of their methods are very helpful for both beginners and seasoned hackers, alike.I highly recommend this book.

The one book I hope the guys in my foursome never discover. I love them, except on the golf course. The is no one correct golf swing for every player. Just check out what three different books tell you about the grip. None of them agree. With this book you match your body type to a basic swing type. Arc for the tall heaver player, width for the broad chested player and leverage for the tall skinner player. Book covers it all grip, setup, alignment, take away and downswing keys. As no one is a perfect body type gives you a map on what to add to your swing to achieve your goal. Now if I can just find a book to do for my putting what this one has done for my swing.

Shaved a few stroke off of my game. Swing for your body type is the motto, and it made a difference in my game.

The "Laws of the Golf Swing" provides an excellent explanation of the golf swing that has immeasurably helped me understand and correct important flaws.The authors recognize that the "classic" golf swing is highly individualistic, depending on one's physical traits. What works well for a tall lanky player is not likely to work well for someone with a more stocky build. In short, one swing does not fit all.To set the reader on the right path, the authors provide a self-test to determine one's dominant physical traits and thus the most appropriate of three major swing types: leverage, arc, and width (LAW).Using simple text and excellent photographs, the authors then detail everything a player needs to know from the moment one approaches the ball until he or she watches the finished shot soar towards the target.The icing on the cake is a description of useful exercises to master key aspects of the swing and then to tailor it to complement other physical traits.This is a great book!

Years later, I am still in awe of what I learned from this book. Even bought a copy for the Federal Judge with whom I spend time at the drivingrange.
