I am also a client of Duana's, and her coaching is excellent.Just because you don't like what she writes, doesn't make it not true. And she will admit in her books that she doesn't like it, either. It's always better to know the truth than rely on wishful thinking.

I've implemented the "no texting" rule and offering a phone conversation and then seeing who takes me up on it. What I've learned from all of Dr. Welch's books is to set clear boundaries and then stick to them. I've gotten so much valuable information from her work, and her responses to my emails have helped me immensely.

I cannot even begin to articulate why I love this book so much. I consider Keller to be one of theologies greatest prose stylists, so it is fun to read simply for the language. It is a revelation to think about clouds theologically. And her bringing together of apophatic theology and its many entanglements really situates some modern theological notions after the "death of God" in helpful fashion. Loved the explorations into Nicholas of Cusa and Whitman. Will be reading the book a second time for further meditation.

Wow! One of the best theological reads I have ever read. Be prepared to have your ideas challenged and be willing not to agree with every point. This is one of the most thought provoking books I have read in years.

I think this book is Dr. Keller's finest work so far. It is simply beautiful. I believe that American Christianity is badly in need of new ways of talking and thinking about faith and Dr. Keller's work is pointing towards a way forward in our post-modern world. We need theology that looks like this. I found that reading this book was a deeply spiritual as well as intellectually engaging experience.

Theology in the 21st century is quite different from that of the past, and Keller exemplifies this current approach magnificently.

My church is thinking of reading this book, but I am very dubious. We were given a list of rave reviews, but, as I told class leaders, "my 40 plus years in the book business tells me that a bunch of glowing editorial reviews on the Amazon page, or the back cover of a book are rather meaningless. I think for the class to make a really informed choice, we should be given the first 5 or 6 pages to read." So I "looked inside" on Amazon. On page 2 I found this: "Dream, in German Traum, becomes trauma." Is Ms Keller really linking "trauma" to "dream" through "Traum"? If I'm reading my dictionary correctly, "dream" derives from "Traum", but "trauma" derives from the Greek "traumat-" alter. of :troma" to wound. Dream and trauma do not appear to be connected. If she's doing something else there, then she isn't doing it very well. I think Keller is being a bit too clever in her "finely wrought prose". Speaking of which, one reviewer calls her " one of theologies greatest prose stylists", but it doesn't look like the kind of prose style I would enjoy reading.

What will save most people from this book is the absurd price.You know friends what's really wrong here? The well-nigh unpardonable sin really being committed? I don't know what it is about 'educated' people that makes them terrible at writing books, but this is another prime example. This book isn't written by an individual, but by a group of people who comprise the Board For Certification Of Genealogists. They've stated way too much that falls under the 'obvious' category, and practically nothing about 'HOW'. Practical is the key word. There is noting practical about this book. It focuses on the 'high level' concepts of what makes up Genealogy Research (or any research for that matter), but fails miserably on how to apply those concepts. Are you looking for a resource that will show you a suggested format for a Family Group Data Sheet? That's a very standard form that is used to document ones research, but it isn't covered in this book. That would be too 'specific' for its scope. In summary, and in my opinion, this is not a useful book.

This is the gold standard text and a go to volume every genealogist needs to conduct themselves as a professional. I thought I was a professional, until I read this book. it has forever changed how I conduct family history. Anyone who takes what they are doing seriously, will pick it up, and learn from the wisdom it contains and the practical aspects it has to teach you. It also made doing my research more methodical, logical, and less time consuming.

I own the Kindle version of this book, which I refer to often. It reminds me to conduct thorough research, document my findings, and be honest about my sources, evidence and conclusions. Genealogy Standards are the guidelines that the best genealogists follow. As a serious amateur, I become a better genealogist ever time I read the volume.

I bought this book before I began the path to certification. Unfortunately, I had to put my certification on the back burner. In spite of that, I read the book anyway and continue to refer to it for clarification and guidance as I run my business. It is a MUST have for ALL genealogists. It simply makes us better.

It's exactly what it claims to be, and the book arrived in perfect condition. If you're concerned about dry/heavy reading, it's not bad at all. If it's been a while since you've been in an academic setting, you might need to brush up on some terminology, but the editors did a good job of ensuring everything is broken down and explained fully. A glossary IS included in the back if you're still having trouble with some of the terms. I'd definitely recommend this for anyone pursuing genealogy, whether they actually want to be board certified or if they're just a hobbyist.

Huge margins, big type. This is almost a pamphlet. The information is Standard Professional Guidelines From just about any organization. Very overpriced

Some great information on referencing and finding meaningful data in records and hits. A lot of it you will already know if you have been doing your own research for any time, but there are some nice standardized practices that will help make your research more consistent and useful.

I tinker in genealogy, this book is for the professional to the novice. IT gives everyone a common set of rules to follow in order to be understood across multiple platforms.

I like this book a lot. It is written for an experienced woodworker. The description of each chest is not a step-by-step instructional. Instead, it covers the unique aspect of each chest in detail and leaves the straight forward stuff unwritten.For example. Mr. Peaert's chest describes how to make the wooden 'straps' in detail. But, I found some non-obvious details missing. For example, again Mr. Peart's chest--how is the base attached to the box? Also, a few more details about the joinery associated with the curved panels on Mr. Thibadeau's work would have been useful.A number of these chests are for the advanced woodworker. The chest with the lapstrake construction and tapered sides or the chest shown on the front cover (top row, middle picture)--definitely not for the newbie. If I were to see these in a gallery, I'd expect to see price tags of well over $5,000.I was rather disappointed that several chests have been shown in other publications. For example, the cylinder chest and the chest with the lapstrake construction have been shown and detailed in other places.Overall, definitely work buying if you already know your way around a wood shop. But definitely it should have been all new chests.

These chests are works of art. Most are beyond the ability of even an experienced hobbyist, and the plans/instructions are sketchy at best. If you are looking for plans of things to build, keep looking. They are inspirational more than anything else.

Pretty pictures. Some interesting designs. But this is not what I expected it to be. The book is more an exercise in display art than a practical plan book. I should have read the description more closely. This will be a gift to someone or maybe I'll exchange it for something more useful at the used book store.

If I had a choice again I would not buy this book. So much is emphasized on art rather than being practical in usage. There are triangle chests, round chests, and others that just take up more space than what can be used for storage. Some carvings in this book I would call just plain ugly. I could take a picture of worms in my driveway and it would look the same. Granted, there are some nice chests in this book, but I doubt I would ever copy any of these for a blanket chest project. It seems the more difficult it is to make a chest, the better it is for being rated as great furniture. Some designs need a special figure to set it apart, which usually calls for expensive wood. If you want to make a blanket chest that's practical for storage and doesn't require expensive wood and time consuming joinery and construction, then go elsewhere for ideas and plans.

This book showcases 30 chests made by as many craftsmen. The first chapter is about various joinery methods that are used in the construction of chests. This is followed by short chapters on each chest. These chapters include photos and illustrations including basic dimensions and design. The information falls a little short of being an actual shop manual. I had assumed some of the designs would be historically accurate reproductions such as a Queen Anne/Chippendale Pennsylvania chest but this is not the case. Three or four show strong historical influence, but most are modern or even avant garde.
