*spoilers*What a disappointment.This book was about two dudes who cry A LOT!And about a jerk woman that annoyed me to no end with her cryptic crap and her secrets and her showing up exactly at a revealing moment. Like instantly. Every time!Itâ€™s been a while since I read a Thirds book but I didnâ€™t remember Dex as such a sap! He used to be funny and charming and loyal and badass. Now heâ€™s just whinny and horny.Donâ€™t get me started on Sloane. He gets cold feet, and then he rushes into marriage. Red flags everywhere!I am so over their make out/kissing sessions! And I guess if TIN is keeping such a close eye on them, they all know about the sex too. Awkward.What was the purpose of Wolf torturing Dex so horribly?? And Dex treating Sparks at the end to a hug after the crazy witch was behind all the bad things that happened to him? Ridiculous!I guess Dex becoming a hybrid is pretty cool but him dying and then coming back to life instantly to tell Sloane â€œhi handsomeâ€ was just so absurd.The last 20% of the book was just a lot of ridiculousness and things that made absolutely no sense.Honestly Iâ€™m just here for Hudson and Sebastian.

The charm of Dex is present as ever.Even after all he went through, he is still the person we rely on to be strong, steady, loving.But he is also changing.Dexter is the heart of the series and he and Sloane are the perfect couple.They have issues to deal with, but overall, in this stage of the relationship, they are rock solid.I enjoyed seeing them grow both professionally and personally.Dex became more focused and he proved this in the opening chapters of the book.Dex adapts and survives. He has a lot to live for.There are many great things about the books in the series: they deal with serious social issues but also mix action, comedy and romance in a perfectly balanced way.The characters feel like old friends, like members of a family you are always looking forward to seeing again. Terrific world building.

Weâ€™ve really taken a new path in this 7th book in the THIRDS series while still maintaining the overarching themes of the ramifications of greed, power, prejudice and hatred. In an earlier review I mentioned the X-Files vibe and that is even more present here. And Cochet manages to do all this while still writing her characters with humor, love and lots and emotional baggage. There were definite tear inducing moments in this book.After doing a couple books centered on other members of the team finding love we are again focused on Dex and Sloaneâ€™s relationship here. We do get some more info on another couple I hope weâ€™ll be getting a book on and even a peek at a surprise couple. We also get to see the nature of family and friends so relationships is also still a dominant theme.I continue to love this series and am continuing my marathon but now Iâ€™m getting a little antsy as Iâ€™m near the end of the existing books. Since Iâ€™ve been reading a book a day by mid-week I ought to be quite depressed that itâ€™s over!

My Quickie Review:Ooh, this book changes everything in Dex and Sloane's lives and I can't wait to see where this series goes from here. It was fantastic! In fact, it was so good...I started listening to it on audio, but then had to put it aside because I wanted to read it faster. I needed to know what was going on and what was going to happen. So, I picked up my print book to read faster...yes, this is a series I buy in audio, ebook, and print. I love THIRDS.In this book, poor Dex is getting beat up again as he's kidnapped, but I don't know who suffers more when this happens...Sloane or Dex.I loved how this book went back to the origins of Dex's coming to live with Maddock...and how that all circled back around to his relationship with Sloane. So fantastic, and honestly that final line could have easily been the perfect finale for the series...although I'm so happy that it isn't. The only thing that niggled is the way the conflict went down between Dex and Sloane. As a reader, we've just been through that same drama too many times...even the characters agree. But it didn't keep me from totally fangirling over the book. Like I said, I totally can't wait to see where the author goes from here.And please, please, please...let Seb and Hudson get their own book soon. I also liked the hints in this one that they may finally be headed toward some sort of resolution between them.

It's sooooo nice to be back with Dex and Sloane. Don't get me wrong, I love the other characters and their books were great, but Dex and Sloane are my absolute favorite.With its intense action, mystery, suspense, and emotion, this book was an amazing addition to the THIRDS series. Questions are answered, suspicions confirmed, and Sloane and Dex must prove that their relationship can handle the horrors that life throws at them.This book is very focused on Dex and Sloane as a couple as well as their family (Tony, Ash and Cael), and while I LOVE the family they've created, I did miss seeing more of Destructive Delta and the team's dynamic when they're all together. That being said, I can totally see where this series is headed as it slowly comes to an end and I'm really excited to see what Charlie Cochet has in store. Although not part of their team, Seb and Hudson make a few appearances and I'm super excited for their book which I believe is coming next.Overall another wonderful addition to this series and I'm really looking forward to seeing how everything is wrapped up in the next two books. If you're a THIRDS fan then this is definitely not a book you want to miss!(Originally reviewed 7/2/16)
