With grit and by grace, rocket mass heaters will begin to replace other heaters wherever appropriate, which will drastically increase comfort and decrease pollution and fuel use.People are already designing combo rocket (mass) heater/cookers (including grilling and smoking), which should render charcoal obsolete wherever trees grow and stick fuel is available.This book also clearly describes how the heater is not appropriate for my current living situation...so I will have to wait until I move (since I'm not going to undertake a major remodel -- I have wood floors and a basement). If I was going to stay here forever, I'd solarize my south with an attached greenhouse and rocket thermal mass bench. Having a clear understanding of design parameters helps unleash the systems-level design creativity!
I have been researching rocket stoves and wanted to get the best info to make my first attempt. This book gives detailed info about critical ratios and measurements you won't find on You tube. You must stay within certain parameters or your stove won't draft correctly. This book covers what you can get away with and what you absolutely must do to have a functioning unit. If you even think about putting in all the hours and work it will take to make a stove, this book will save you a ton. Worth every penny even if you don't build a stove. Ernie and Erica really have a great product here.
If you are looking for answers to all sorts of questions about building a Rocket Mass Heater, this is the book that you need to have on your bookshelf next to "Rocket Mass Heaters" by Evans / Jackson.I love that Ernie and Erica also use drawings which make explanations very clear.This book will diminish the need of endless surfing and exploring the internet. Full of info but a bit frustrating as reference for building. It is text book! Even with this book, I winged it mostly. I cannot definitely say anything was missing or overlooked only that I couldn't find any true directions to build from.
Great book, I bought because the brick for brick instructions, however the parts list is lacking the most critical information, quantity of parts. Even if the parts list had 1 example of a 6" build that included HOW MANY BRICKS? it would be easier to order your parts. According to the book you need full and half bricks, and are required to make 2 cuts that I haven't figured out yet..Lots of great information, but too general to call complete.
This book and their DVD is very helpful in building and designing a rocket mass heater. As I venture into self-sufficency, it makes sense to have a rocket mass heater in one's home should we lose electrical power or should something happen to the electrical grid. It makes me feel safe to know that I can do many things to protect myself and my family by learning from others. I love their pioneering spirits and the willingness to share it with us.
